Turbulent adventure on the flight back – it's going bumpy.

The vehicle delivery and check at Maui passes quick and without any problems. Our plane leaves at 6.45 pm. The first stage is about 4 hours to Sydney. After one hour these air holes. Suddenly, without announcing any turbulences, we're tossed off the seats and the plane gets into the free fall more than once. Mortal fear. Adrenaline. Crying passengers. While the plane falls for three times, Ralph and I are holding each other, thinking we're going to crash. Then it's quiet again. Andy, the friendly Kiwi next to us, didn't have anybody to hold and is very pale now, hoping for a new pilot in Sydney. From now on I have to get a grip on myself till Sydney, with the feeling of never wanting to go on a plane again and very conscious about having such a long way still before us.

The following 14 1/4 hours flight from Sydney to Dubai are straining, it's bumpy all the time and the experience of falling is still in my mind. My palms get moist every now and then and I can't relax anymore. Fortunately the 6 1/2 hours flight from Dubai to Duesseldorf is really quite, almost like hanging out on sofa. Just at home our friends give us a call and ask if we like to look a football match of our team on tv together with them. Although sleepless since 39 hours, we are still psyched up and accept. Just arrived, the jet lag knocks me out. I get covered up and awake 2 hours later just like from coma, everything is far away from me. New Zealand is as far away now again.

If I'll go on a plane again? For sure. To get to New Zealand I'd do just about everything :-)
